Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM II Macro Lens
Two good reasons to a third party lenses for the camera-buying function has) no producer at one of their own lenses (such as a different focal length or zoom range, or to save money. The main reason to buy Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 II EX DG Macro HSM, save money, such as Canon already has a very good performance 4-200mm Model 70 for same-spec’d Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L USM has. So, if there is a trade-off for a lower price? It’s a great question.
My disappointment started to come out of the box with this lens – brought memories of my time with the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro lens. I returned my first Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 II EX DG Macro HSM for a foreign body in the lens – it is big enough that I would not trust to verify the image quality. No problem – I returned for another.
I have two Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 II EX DG MACRO HSM (it was the physical control). But I quickly over 12,233 ISO resolution test chart that this lens has a definitely hard to focus problems. ISO 12,233 tabular results posted for this lens (Example 2) – Please note that the 70mm and 85mm samples from this lens is framed with AF. The focus was so bad that the manual focus right shot from the same position that the image will cause order was placed when accurate manual focus on – chart details a bit smaller than he should do. Not with samples from both the focal length of lens distortion for the comparison sample (sample 1 with the lens is the default).
I am very disappointed, but accept another copy of the front-focus Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 II EX DG Macro HSM at the third attempt. Two of these lenses came from B & H and the third came from Amazon.com (only) on a mix. I tested this on two lenses Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III body (one is a Canon-calibrated), and Canon EOS 40D body. AF all at the same results focus – are consistently ahead. I did not try before, copy the four.
Quality problems that I saw was very disappointing because this lens has the potential to be good.

The Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 II EX DG Macro HSM is well built – generally Sigma EX lenses. The focus and zoom ring is a good size and the relatively smooth-functioning with a good amount of friction. Three copies of this lens has a small piece in the MF ring, but the second is a better manual focus lenses that I use. Overall size of the ring and form a very good lens when the zoom ring to change the direction opposite from the direction of standard for Canon. I’m not a fan of easy-to-get-dusty, hard-to-clean (try the non-rest of the band) Sigma dull, but it looks good and not reflective. Here are some views from Sigma – use the links below, mouse over the image.
The Sigma 70-200 Macro II are both internal focus and internal zoom makes it very fun to use. 77mm filters are not installed spiders in MF. Sigma Lens Hood included. Sigma new pages and front-center-pinch has removed especially good – just the lens cover in front of the lens hood.
The 4.8 oz (135 g) Collar shown above is included and released. A very short turn retaining ring on the screw rotation of the release train and loosen the screws to completely remove the collar – while the lens is still attached to the camera. This is much better than the Nikon and Canon f/2.8s implementation requires a lens from the camera on a tripod for the removal of ring to be removed. Tripod ring does not have the feeling, as it rolled on the bed (not) the most, but relatively smoothly.
Full publication date: You should know that there are potential problems with using a lens from other manufacturers from the camera body manufacturer. Since Sigma reverse engineers (vs.) licenses) manufacturer AF routines (with the exception of her own body, there is the possibility that the new body could not support third party older lenses. Although not common, it happens. Sometimes rechipped lenses can be made compatible, sometimes not. More unusual is the situation in the lens and body manufacturers each other instead of the blame for the problem. For 4-year benefits Sigma USA warranty – it is far superior to Canon standard 1 year warranty. The risk may be low, but you must figure into your buying decision.
Usually I would expect to buy a new lens / Retail reflect on the experience of others have. Being 0 for 3 on the model of the lens, I could not in good conscience recommend that you to buy this device. That is a shame, because this lens has the potential to be good – and very good value.
Focal length range and fast aperture is a very useful feature. They are very good for portraits, sports, landscapes and other common types, including images taken in low light levels. But would at this point, I prefer the Tamron autofocus true that at least some time and a better image quality in both the 200mm (we tend to look with extreme zoom lenses, our). And, of course, Canon 70-200 L version the best answer.
If you are willing to try this program, make sure to give a good return policy of your seller. I try not to be producing Sigma warranty for this lens, but that is another option that has the potential to great lens for the price.
